A nutritional diet should include a healthy balance of nutritional foods and exercise. If you are hoping to achieve weight loss through a nutritional diet and exercise then you are not alone. We are inundated with weight loss plans that include a nutritional diet and yet there is no mention of what a nutritional diet consists of. In this article we will explore some healthy eating and exercise options.

	What foods are best?

When thinking of a nutritional diet, it is always best to remember balance. No one food holds the answers to a nutritional diet. A nutritional diet should start with a majority of vegetables and fruits. They are packed full of nutrients and are low in fat so they are a necessary element of a nutritional diet. Another important part of a nutritional diet is breads and cereals. These make up a bulk of our energy source, but a good nutritional diet will contain a controlled amount of this foods, since over eating these sugars or carbohydrates usually explains much of our over weight. Protein such a meat, eggs and beans are an important part of a nutritional diet. A nutritional diet is about making good choices, for example a chicken breast with your meal is a better choice than a big fatty hamburger in a nutritional diet.

In a nutritional diet you will also need fat. When you are thinking nutritional diet, fats are not the first thing that comes to mind but they play an important part in our nutritional diet. The important thing to keep in mind is that you need smaller amounts of fats then most of us get. Unsaturated fat is a better choice in a nutritional diet and will help with weight loss. So an avocado would be a better choice than a side of fries both in a nutritional diet and weight loss plan.

	What sports are best?

Our bodies need exercise to stay healthy and exercise plays an important part in a nutritional diet. In most weight loss plans we hear the best exercise is cardiovascular, but the experts agree that it is best to get a balance of different exercises. So for instance switching between the ways you get exercise is the best plan for a nutritional diet and exercise. You could try walking, cycling and swimming for example or mix some different exercise classes at the gym. You will work different muscles and enjoy a balance of different exercises which will help in weight loss and health benefits that come with a nutritional diet.

 Nutritional diet- Staying healthy

When you are trying to make choices about a nutritional diet the choices involve both foods and exercise for the optimum results in health and weight loss. So dieting and weight loss are not about starving yourself. They are about making the right choices for a nutritional diet including exercise. In the long term, a nutritional diet is one of the best choices you can make for yourself, as it will keep you healthy, and as a benefit you can lose weight.

Today, an estimated 50 million people in the US suffer from chronic pain caused by accidents, disease, and other disorders. Chronic pain prevents its sufferers from performing daily activities and going about their life in a normal fashion. It is different from normal short term pain (also known as acute pain) because it can last for weeks, months, or even years and cannot be treated with normal pain relievers. Imagine having a headache that comes and goes for months, or a recurring pain in your leg every time you walk for more than 5 minutes. In this article we will talk about chronic pain and ways to relieve it.

	What is chronic pain?

Chronic pain is physical and emotional pain that is present in the body for long durations of time that cannot be eliminated by conventional pain relievers.

Chronic pain is different from acute pain in that acute pain alerts the person experiencing it of a problem in the body. As a result, the person immediately takes action to prevent further pain and deterioration. Thus, pain is a useful function that helps in maintaining a state of comfort, i.e. pain free.

	Chronic pain, however, is harmful.
Chronic pain is experienced when acute pain is not treated properly. In the case of chronic pain, the pain does not go away, and in fact increases in magnitude.

This is a result of the process in which pain is experienced through the nervous system. If pain is not treated, nerve fibers become better at transmitting pain signals to the brain, and the pain is experienced more acutely. Also, the brain becomes more sensitive to the pain which contributes to the continuing feeling of discomfort.

	Chronic pain relievers

For most cases of chronic pain there are no prescribed pain relievers that will eradicate the pain. Depending on the severity of the pain, there are different pain relievers and medications that can be used to alleviate it and lessen the intensity of the symptoms.

The main concern with using any medication, however, is not to overdose it.
Most people might incorrectly follow the rationale that higher dosage of pain relievers leads to greater efficacy, but with specific pain relievers for chronic pain, using more than the maximum prescription can lead to very serious adverse effects.

For mild and acute pain a simple drug such as ibuprofen can be used. For severe, chronic pain, different types of opioid medications are used. This is the most commonly used medication in cases of chronic pain and the type and dosage when used depends on the level of pain experienced by the person.

Since the pain relievers cannot permanently eliminate the pain, the main goal when using pain relievers is to enable the person to perform daily activities and run a normal life. For this reason dosage varies among patients. The amount of opioid required for one person to lead a normal life might be fatal to a person with less severe pain.

Usually, a doctor or physician will prescribe opioid usage for the long run to maintain the general pain level and a short run dosage in case pain is felt during the day. As was said above, this is the most common method of treating chronic pain, while the main goal with any pain reliever is to permit the person to lead a normal life.

Smoking Statistics – The Real Numbers

Smoking statistics are numbers and statistics pertaining to cigarette smoking such as how many cigarette smokers in the population, the number of smoking illnesses and related deaths, and the percentage of smokers who successfully quit smoking. Many smoking statistics are usually thrown around and it is hard to know what to believe and what to make out of all the data. In this article we will give a detailed list of smoking statistics providing everything you need to know about cigarette smoking.

Smoking Statistics – Smokers in the World

Cigarette smoking is rising in developing countries and falling in the developed ones. There are 1.1 billion smokers in the world today with about 10 million cigarettes sold every minute. In 2006 in the US, 23.5% of men and 18.8% of women were cigarette smokers. Most cigarette smokers begin smoking in High school or by the age of 21. About 80,000 to 100,000 teens worldwide pickup smoking every day, and 1 out of 5 kids ages 13-15 is a smoker. At least 50 % of those starting to smoke at an early age will continue to smoke for at least 20 years. Additionally, according to other smoking statistics, 1 out of 3 cigarettes is sold in the Western Pacific region, and 25% of the youth in that region will die from cigarette smoking.

Smoking Statistics – Smoking Diseases and Statistics

Probably most alarming of the smoking statistics is the health and smoking diseases statistics. An estimated 50% of long term smokers will die from cigarette smoking. In the US, approximately 400,000 people die from smoking every year. A survey found that 90% of lung cancer deaths in men and 80% of lung cancer deaths in women were attributed to smoking. Furthermore, for men who smoke, the risk of dying from lung cancer is 23 times greater than that of non smokers. By smoking cigarettes, a person doubles the chance of a having a stroke. Altogether, in a period of 5 years, roughly 15 million people globally will have died from smoking. It is estimated that an average cigarette smoker cuts 14 years of his life due to smoking. Second hand smoking is also harmful. Each year second hand smoking causes about 300,000 cases of bronchitis and pneumonia among infants. Based on these smoking statistics, cigarette smoking significantly increases the risk of lung cancer, heart disease, and other smoking diseases. Hopefully, this will encourage people to quit smoking or not to not even start.

	Smoking Statistics – Quit Smoking

Quitting smoking is extremely hard. Only 3-5% of people who attempt to quit smoking by pure willpower are successful. By quitting, smokers significantly reduce risk for illnesses and diseases. For example, by quitting smoking for a whole year, the risk of a heart attack falls by 50%. By quitting for 10 years, the risk for lung cancer is reduced by 50%. And by quitting for 15 years, the risk for lung cancer is completely reduced to that of a non smoker. According to the smoking statistics, a person’s decision to quit smoking will have an enormous effect on his health as well as the people around him. Hopefully, this article and the discussed smoking statistics gave you enough reason to quit smoking and to convince others to do so as well.

Many people start smoking without knowing the true facts about cigarette smoking. These smoking facts concern smoking addiction, the quitting process, and other smoking dangers. As a result, people make uneducated decisions pertaining to their smoking habits, unaware of the actual smoking facts. In this article we will go over some of the necessary smoking facts that everyone should know before beginning to smoke.

	Smoking Facts – Smoking Addiction

The nicotine in the cigarettes is what causes smoking addiction. This is the one smoking fact that everyone knows, yet people don’t realize its importance. Nicotine is just as addictive as cocaine or heroin. Does that surprise you? Only 2.5% of people trying to quit smoking are successful each year. Nicotine affects your brain and neurotransmitters in such a way that releases dopamine and has a relaxing sensation on the body. The body gets used to this nicotine supplement and develops a dependency. As was stated above, this is one of the most significant smoking facts that should be known. Smoking addiction is the reason people don’t quit smoking even after they learn about the many smoking dangers.

Smoking Facts – Cigarette Smoking Diseases

Cigarette smoking diseases lead to approximately 440,000 deaths every year in the US alone. The breakdown for this is 40% due to some form of cancer, 35% due to heart attacks and heart diseases, and 25% due to other lung diseases. Smoking also constitutes the cause for 87% of lung cancer cases in the US. The reason for this is the fact that cigarettes contain thousands of chemicals, and about 400 of which are toxic substances. Many studies have also shown that cigarette smoking is one of the major causes for heart attacks. Other smoking diseases are chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It is important to know this smoking fact because cigarette smoking harms nearly every organ in the body and is the leading cause for preventable disease and premature death in the US.

	Smoking Facts – Quitting Smoking

Once addicted to smoking, it is extremely hard to quit. There are many techniques and medications that are used, but the fact is that most people try quitting multiple times before succeeding, and many give up. However, the benefits to quitting smoking are plentiful. Quitting smoking reduces the risk of lung cancer as well as many other lung and heart diseases attributed to smoking. Moreover, general health and physical feeling are improved when quitting smoking. The physical dependence on cigarettes lasts only about 3 weeks, and after that it is all psychological. Quitting is not impossible. It is important for people to know this smoking fact because it deters people from starting to smoke cigarettes in order to prevent the addiction and quitting process, and it encourages smokers to quit smoking and improve their health.

	Smoking Facts – Conclusion

In this article we discussed the most important smoking facts that everyone should know. With the awareness of the smoking facts, people can make better decisions about their cigarette smoking habits and can inform others as well.

Diet and health are important topics for a long enjoyable life.
Many people do not think about their diet and health until they find themselves struggling with weight loss or a health problem.

Eating a healthy diet can help with both your diet and health, but exercise also plays a big role in all good diet and health plans.
There are also other important parts to a well rounded diet and health plan.

In this article we will explore some topics to help you design your new diet and health plan.

	What is a healthy diet?

A healthy diet is an important step in diet and health. We are what we eat.

Diet does not just mean losing weight. Diet means what you put into your body to maintain your health.
If you put a healthy diet and exercise into your body you will get good health out of your body. It is as simple as that, diet and health are interconnected.

A healthy diet constitutes a majority of fresh fruit and vegetables, a modest amount of carbohydrates such as bread and pasta (carbohydrates are an important part of our diet. We often eat far beyond our required amount of carbohydrates for a healthy diet, and these turn to sugar which then turns into fat unless we burn it as energy), protein and fat (again, we require a much smaller portion of fat than we tend to consume).

What are some sports or physical activities that may be part of a good diet and health plan?

Exercise plays an important role in diet and health. There are a variety of options available in sports or physical activities to help you achieve weight loss or as part of a healthy diet. Some people prefer activities such as yoga or walking as part of their diet and health plan. Other people choose activities such as kick boxing or running as part of a good diet and health plan. Whatever choice you make, be sure to try to get some form of exercise for 30 minutes 3 times a week as part of a good diet and health plan

Joining a group of people who regularly exercise may offer sood support at your new diet and health plan. Friends can help each other with goals of a healthy diet. Write out a new healthy diet plan together or join the gym and take exercise classes together. There are great ways to support each other in these diet and health changes.

What about taking diet supplements for weight loss?

Weight loss supplements have been a popular source of interest for people who are learning about diet and health. There are many diet pills and herbal supplements that can help you ease into your desired weight loss. Among the most popular dietary supplements are Acai and Hoodia which are both herbal weight loss supplements. Xenical and Acai are weight loss supplements that help to decrease the amount of fat your body absorbs. Diet pills or weight loss supplements are definitely not a requirement with a good diet and health plan but they have assisted many people with weight loss while they are making a change to a good diet and health plan.

What else MUST I know about a good diet and health plan?

With all good diet and health plans there are some important factors which are easily forgotten. You should aim to drink at least 2 to 2.5 liters of water a day as part of a healthy diet. Good diet and health also consists of getting approximately 7-8 hours of sleep a night. As part of a new diet and health plan try to avoid eating late at night. Diet and health are linked to general well being and a happy healthy life. What more do you need to know? Get started today on your new diet and health plan and enjoy a happier healthier life.

Many people found diet pills helped them to lose weight faster and with their improved body image they found it easier to stick with their ongoing dieting plans.

Is there a difference between generic and brand diet pills?

In many diet pills there are options of buying either brand or generic. The same active ingredients are found in both the generic and brand version of diet pills such as Alli and Xenical, so there is virtually no difference in generic or brand diet pills, except the price.

Anxiety disorder, Generalized anxiety disorder or GAD, is a frequent pattern of anxiety and persistent worry over various activities and events.

	What causes anxiety disorder?

Generalized anxiety disorder is a common condition. While the cause of GAD is unknown, biological and psychological factors are involved. Stressful situations or stress inducing behavior may also be contributing factors.

The disorder may start at any time in life, including childhood, and many individuals with GAD report having this form of anxiety for as long as they can remember. GAD also has a tendency to occur more in women than in men.

	Symptoms of anxiety disorder

The following symptoms are attributed to General Anxiety Disorder:

 Fatigue

 Irritability

 shakiness, headaches, and muscle tension

Feeling keyed up, restlessness, or " edgy"

 Difficulty in concentration

 Difficulty in managing worry

Excess worry and anxiety that is often disproportionate to the situation

Excessive shortness of breath, palpitations, sweating, and stomach/bowel symptoms

 Sleep disruption

Anxiety disorder may also occur with depression and substance abuse.

	Diagnosing anxiety disorder

When one suspects having anxiety disorder, or recognizes recurring symptoms of anxiety disorder in his behavior, it is recommended to consult with a psychiatrist, a family doctor or other healthcare professional regarding these thoughts. The health care professional should rule out physical problems that can mimic anxiety, as well as any symptoms caused by drugs. A physical examination and psychological evaluation can rule out other causes; therefore a proper diagnosis may involve various tests.

	Treatment

The goal of treatment for anxiety disorder is to enable the person to function better and the success of a treatment often depends on the severity of a person's anxiety disorder.

A combination of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and psychiatric medications are the most common forms of treatment.

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are often the first choice in medications, while serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) are also used. In more severe cases antidepressants and some antiseizure medications may also taken. Other anti-anxiety medications such as benzodiazepines may be recommended if antidepressants do not suffice.

	Various behavioral therapies may include:

Cognitive behavioral therapy for changing distorted and possibly harmful perceptions of one's reality

 Relaxing mental imagery

 Practice of relaxation techniques

Other therapeutic techniques may involve developing an understanding of the disorder and the factors that improve or worsen the symptoms.

A healthy lifestyle consisting of regular exercise, sufficient rest, and proper nutrition can help reduce the symptoms.

Anxiety disorder and GAD - Medications

The following medications are in some way related to, or used in anxiety treatments. This list is not exhaustive and is intended as a supplement for the expertise, skill, knowledge, and judgment of your physician.

	Some medications include:

Atarax, Ativan, Bu Spar, Catapres, Compazine, Lexapro Cymbalta, Dilantin, Effexor XR, Klonopin, Librium, Neurantin, Paxil, Pristiq, Xonax, Remeron, and Valium.

When to Contact a Medical Professional

	Call your medical practitioner if:

You are experiencing the symptoms and signs of GAD

You have experienced these symptoms for 6 months or longer

These symptoms interfere with your livelihood

	Prognosis

While the disorder may continue and prove difficult to treat; most patients experience great improvement with the application of behavioral therapy or medications.

Possible Complications: Panic Disorder and Depression

An anxiety attack involves an experience of intense fear lasting for a short period that occurs for no known reason. This is also known as a panic attack. An anxiety attack can be an ongoing problem or a onetime event. When two or more attacks occur within a month, it may be a symptom of panic or anxiety disorder. Anxiety attacks can keep you from living a normal life if they become severe.

	Causes of anxiety attacks

There is no certain cause known to trigger an anxiety attack. Sometimes they are caused by experiencing upsetting situations or triggered by a stressful life event. Other mental health issues, such as depression, may also be related to anxiety attacks. Alcoholism is also known as a trigger for anxiety attacks.
Anxiety attacks may occur for no reason and they can happen to anyone, regardless of age or gender.

Certain health issues or medications may cause anxiety attack symptoms. Those using or withdrawing from alcohol or illegal drugs may also experience anxiety symptoms. Some anxiety attacks are triggered by the fear and anticipation of having a future attack. It is assumed that there is a genetic factor for anxiety disorder, so there is a higher likelihood of having anxiety attacks if someone in your family is known to suffer from anxiety disorder.

Signs and symptoms of an anxiety attack

The symptoms experienced during an anxiety attack can resemble symptoms of ischemia. Symptoms should be checked by a healthcare professional to make sure that they are actually anxiety disorder's symptoms.

Extreme fear is the main symptom of an anxiety attack. While other signs and symptoms vary from person to person; the same person may experience different signs and symptoms during repeated anxiety attacks. Signs and symptoms usually last no longer than 30 minutes. Other signs and symptoms of an anxiety attack may include:

 Chest pain.

 Dizziness, or light headedness.

Fear of losing control or embarrassment.

Feeling of being out of touch with your physical and social environment.

Having a feeling of doom, as if something very bad is going to happen. You may feel close to death.

Heart palpitations, which is a sudden awareness of your heartbeat. Your heart feels as if it is pounding, or beating too fast.

Trembling, sweating, or having hot or cold flashes.

Stomach discomfort, which may include nausea or diarrhea (loose.

Numbness or tingling in your hands or feet. There may be numbness or tingling of your lips or around your mouth.

You may feel like unable to breathe. Some people hyperventilate during an anxiety attack and not even notice it. Hyperventilation occurs when your respiration is too fast and shallow which can cause numbness or tingling in your hands and lips. There may be cramping in your fingers or toes, which may even curl up. During an anxiety attack, it is best focus on taking very slow, deep breaths. You may need a friend or loved one to help you do this by breathing with you. Your physician may show you how to breathe into a paper bag if you hyperventilate.

	Diagnosis and treatment

There is no certain test that can diagnose an anxiety disorder. Anxiety attack can feel like symptoms of other health problems, so it is important to rule these problems out. For instance, the chest pain and shortness of breath during an anxiety attack can resemble that of a heart attack.

Repeated anxiety attacks are a real health problem that requires treatment. Counseling may help you understand what is causing the anxiety or fear. A counselor can teach you relaxation techniques to decrease your anxiety. Medication may also be necessary and it may take many months of treatment to ensure that your anxiety attacks do not return.

	Anxiety treatment and medications

Thinning hair- Is it a must?

Do you suffer from hair loss or thinning hair? It was believed in the past, that if your mother’s father did not suffer from hair thinning or baldness you would not have to deal with thinning hair or hair loss. This is actually not the case; nearly 60% of men suffer from hair loss.

The gene for male hair loss or baldness can be inherited from either parent but does tend to be more strongly associated with the mother’s side. There are also myths such as shaving your head when you have thinning hair will make your hair grow back stronger and thicker. In this article we will discuss what causes hair loss or baldness in men, what are your chances of being afflicted with this condition and some common treatments available for hair loss.

	Why does hair loss occur?

Hair loss can occur for a variety of reasons but male pattern hair loss (MPHL) accounts for about 95% of hair loss in men.

Male pattern hair loss or male pattern baldness are extremely common conditions which affect a large percentage of males. Male pattern hair loss is the thinning or loss of hair in the crown of the head and hairline. Eventually male pattern hair loss or baldness leads to a U shape pattern of hair with a bald crown and receded hairline.

Male pattern hair loss is caused by an increase in DHT in the scalp which is a hormonal byproduct of testosterone, the primary male sex hormone. DHT causes the hair follicles to shrink, resulting in hair thinning to a fuzzy consistency and then leading to baldness.

Sometimes people will suggest that hair loss or baldness is nutrition related or that the scalp has bad circulation. This is not the case with male pattern hair loss or baldness. Men suffering from hair loss, thinning hair and baldness often feel helpless in how to deal with this condition potentially resulting in low self esteem, anxiety about their attractiveness and ultimately depression.

Emotional problems associated with hair loss can be helped by seeking support with a counselor or support group.

Doesn’t hair loss only occur in older men?

Hair loss, baldness and thinning of the hair do increase with age but male pattern hair loss can occur anytime after puberty. About 25% of men will notice hair loss or hair thinning by the time they reach thirty years of age. By the age of sixty over 65% of men begin showing signs of baldness.

Is there anything I can do for hair loss?

There are several treatments on the market for hair loss or hair thinning resulting in baldness. Treatments such as Propecia, Rogaine and Minoxidil have high success rates in the halting of hair loss or hair thinning and can also help in the regrowth of hair.

These hair loss treatments do require some patience as it is suggested that it takes at least a year for significant results.

If you want to find out more about hair loss treatments consult your physician or healthcare professional and find out which treatment is most appropriate for your hair loss

When using hair loss treatment you must be patient as it takes time to show results. Some men show a halt in hair loss in as little as 3 months when using hair loss treatment such as Propecia, but for others it can take up to 6 months.

You cannot change the fact that you inherited a gene form one of your parents which will predetermine if you suffer from hair loss, thinning hair or baldness.

Impotence is one form of erectile dysfunction, a penile malfunction that makes it hard or impossible for men to achieve or maintain an erection.
Many doctors and professionals have explained impotence in technical terms that make it hard to take in – we have brought some of the erectile dysfunction experts here, to explain simply and clearly – what is impotence? We are here to offer straight forward answers to questions such as – What are impotence causes? What ED treatments can help deal with impotence or erectile dysfunction, and what lowers the chances of ever having to deal with erectile dysfunction, or impotence? Through research and years of experience, we know – many men find themselves quietly suffering from impotence, sometimes briefly and others for many months – trying to keep it a secret.

But – impotence is treatable! There are many ED treatments that can offer you a good sex life, and many changes to your life style that will help with a better sex life, as well as a better quality of life.

	Impotence in general

Impotence is a form of erectile dysfunction and can be a result of many issues. Impotence can occur every time one has a sexual encounter or it can occur sporadically.

Impotence causes, range from the physical to the psychological and from the younger man to the older man although the possibilities of impotence do increase naturally with age. Impotence can also result from more than one cause which can be more difficult to diagnose.

Impotence results from an inadequate amount of blood flowing into the penis for an erection to occur; this is due to a constriction of the blood vessels in the penis.

Impotence leaves men feeling frustrated and alone, yet it is more common than people think. In fact most men will deal with impotence at some time in their lives. The best way to combat impotence is to understand impotence causes.

What are the physical impotence causes?

Physical impotence causes include a narrowing of the blood vessels in the penis, injuries to the penis or testicles, hormone imbalances, excessive alcohol use and medication interactions.

Men who are suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity and kidney or liver failure can also be afflicted by impotence.

Physically related impotence occurs more frequently in men over 40 and may require long term ED treatment.

What are the psychological impotence causes?

Stress, depression and anxiety are the most common psychological impotence causes. These can include work problems, relationship issues, guilt, sexual boredom and bereavement.

Psychological impotence causes do not necessarily require use of an ED treatment, however there is evidence to show that men who are dealing with this type of impotence can benefit from the use of an ED treatment temporarily, whilst working through psychological impotence causes.

Most popular of impotence causes – unhealthy lifestyle

Impotence can result from both physical and psychological causes. The chance of many of the causes of impotence can be reduced or alleviated by the choice of a healthy life style.
This can include a diet high in fruits and vegetables and a low fat intake. It is also recommended that we get some form of cardiovascular exercise 3-4 times a week for at least30-40 minutes.

The better you take care of your body the less likely you are to deal with health or well being related impotence causes.

What methods of ED treatment are available for impotence?

Access to medicinal ED treatment for men suffering from impotence has been on the rise since the introduction of Viagra to the market in 1998.

There are many different ED treatment methods available to men suffering from physical impotence causes. These include medications such as; Viagra, Cialis and their generic equivalents.

Men suffering from a physically related impotence may require long term ED treatment.

It is not necessary for those suffering from a psychological impotence to use an ED treatment as the issue is likely temporary, however it has been shown that those suffering from a psychologically related impotence will feel more confident and self assured about themselves sexually and can find it easier to work through the issues causing their impotence.

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the inability to achieve or maintain an erection needed in order to enjoy sexual intercourse. Impotence is one type of erectile dysfunction, in which a man is unable to obtain an erection.

Most men experience some form of erectile dysfunction or impotence at some point in their life; however for most it is only temporary.

Erectile dysfunction causes a great deal of stress for men who experience this issue, and sadly, they often suffer in silence.

Medical News Today reports that a high percentage of men do not even feel comfortable enough to discuss erectile dysfunction problems with their doctor and if they do approach a doctor for advice on erectile dysfunction or impotence,it often takes an average of seventeen months.

There are many physiological and psychological causes of erectile dysfunction and impotence and thankfully, there are medications that can help treat erectile dysfunction problems.

What can cause impotence or Erectile Dysfunction?

Erectile dysfunction and impotence are caused by a wide range of physiological and psychological conditions. Men of all ages can suffer from erectile dysfunction or impotence; however the percentage of men afflicted with erectile dysfunction or impotence does increase with age, most commonly in men over 65.

Physical causes of erectile dysfunction include problems such as a narrowing of the blood vessels in the penis, hormone imbalances, kidney or liver failure, high blood pressure, diabetes, fatigue, stroke, brain or spinal cord injuries, injuries to the penis or testicles and medicinal interactions. Psychological causes of erectile dysfunction can include anxiety, problems in the relationship, depression and stress from work.

What ED treatment is available for impotence or erectile dysfunction?

Erectile dysfunction can occur for many different reasons. For erectile dysfunction with physical causes, there are several well known, successful and popular ED treatments, such as Viagra and Cialis or their generic counterparts.

What about erectile dysfunction treatment when the problem is psychological?

As mentioned above, erectile dysfunction and impotence can also occur for many psychological reasons, such as insecurities regarding sexual performance, anxiety or stress.

Erectile dysfunction or impotence of this type signals that something must change in his life. Most of the time, erectile dysfunction or impotence of this type will disappear when one relaxes, and makes changes in favor of an improved lifestyle.

It is not necessarily recommended to start ED treatment when the reason for erectile dysfunction is psychological, but it has been shown that men who used ED treatment such as Viagra or Cialis while working through psychological issues resulting in erectile dysfunction, found that it boosted their self esteem.

How does ED treatment help achieve or maintain an erection?

Viagra, Cialis and their generic counterparts all work in the same way.
As erectile dysfunction is the inability to achieve or sustain an erection, ED treatments work to help the body’s natural mechanisms achieve the erection.

Erectile dysfunction problems are due to the degradation of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), which is a natural chemical produced in the body. Cyclic guanosine monophosphate (GMP) relaxes the blood vessels of the penis and increases the blood flow into the penis, which results in an erection.

ED treatment such as Viagra, Cialis or their generic counterparts block the degradation of this chemical and help the blood vessels in the penis to relax, thereby increasing the potential of blood flow into the penis, resulting in an erection. Thus problems with erectile dysfunction are alleviated.

ED treatment will also help the muscles in the penis maintain that blood pressure so the erection can be sustained and sexual intercourse enjoyed. ED treatment encourages the body’s natural ability to achieve an erection; therefore these medications are ineffective without sexual stimulation.

Cholesterol is a lipid (fat) which is crucial for healthy body function. Cholesterol is contained in each cell of every living organism, but doesn't exist at all in plants. Due to excessive eating of types of meat that contain high proportions of fat and cholesterol, many people are now suffering from excessive amounts of cholesterol in their blood. High amounts of cholesterol in the blood is an unhealthy situation which may cause many diseases, such as heart attacks.

	Three types of cholesterol

Cholesterol is needed for many biological processes that occur within the body's cells, such as building and maintaining the outer layers of cell membranes , producing sex hormones and hormones produced by the adrenal gland, cholesterol is responsible for the procedure of converting sunlight into vitamin D, and much more. There are three known types of cholesterol, these are:

LDL (low density cholesterol) – also known as the "bad cholesterol". LDL is responsible for carrying cholesterol cells from the liver to the body's cells, but due to its low density, when there is too much of it within the body, it floats against the walls of the arteries thus causing an obstruction in blood flow.

HDL (high density cholesterol) – also known as "good cholesterol", mainly because it is connected with prevention of arterial diseases. HDL acts exactly opposite from LDL, by taking cholesterol particles away from the body and into the liver.

Triglycerides– these create the blood fat or body fat, and are stored in our bodies and released to use as energy for different bodily functions.

Normal cholesterol levels in the body

Cholesterol is measured in two different ways - mmol/liter (millimoles/liter), or mg/dl (milligrams/deciliter).

Optimum levels of cholesterol are less then 200 mg/dL or 5mmol/liter.

Borderline high cholesterol level is over 200 mg/dL or over 5 mmol/liter

High cholesterol level isover 240 mg/dL or over 7.8mmol/liter.

What are the dangers of high cholesterol levels?

High amounts of cholesterol may cause a narrowing of the arteries, thus elevating the risk of heart attacks or angina pectoris, and other cardiovascular diseases; high levels of cholesterol are also associated with a higher risk of strokes and mini-strokes.

	Lowering high cholesterol

High cholesterol is caused mainly due to unhealthy diet and lifestyle, therefore some healthy changes to one's diet or lifestyle can reduce the amount of cholesterol in our body:

Avoid foods that contain saturated fat, which can be found in red meat, cheeses, cream, and many other foods.

Exercise. It is proven that regular exercise lowers LDL and aids in overall health.

Maintain a normal BMI and a healthy balanced body weight. People who are overweight tend to have lower HDL levels, and higher LDL levels.

Quit smoking, reduce alcohol and caffeine consumption.

If you suffer from diabetes, liver or kidney diseases, hypo-thyroid, or hypertension, it is recommended to keep these medical conditions medicinally controlled, since they may elevate LDL levels when uncontrolled.

	High cholesterol medications

If lifestyle and dietary changes do not help to lower LDL or cholesterol levels, there are medications, sold only by prescription, that are cholesterol lowering. These include:

 Aspirin

 Anti hypertensivemedications –

Statins – these medication will block the liver's activity from producing cholesterol

 cholesterol absorption inhibitors

All these medications require prescription and medical supervision, and may cause side effects that should be considered.

Blood Pressure

High blood pressure is a common disease which affects millions of people.
Many people are unaware that they have high blood pressure problems as it is typically symptomless; however high blood pressure can have some serious consequences if left untreated. The arteries in your heart are like a pipeline carrying blood to and from your heart. When you have high blood pressure the blood is moving through your pipeline at a higher pressure than normal.
Overtime your arteries or pipeline can become clogged and strained, thus causing damage to the heart and other organs.

	High blood pressure – Diagnosis

High blood pressure is checked with a blood pressure monitor, usually by a physician but many people are now monitoring their blood pressure range at home.
You should have your blood pressure range checked at least twice a year to see if you have high blood pressure. If you have an elevated blood pressure range you will need to be monitored more frequently.

Blood pressure readings consist of two numbers, systolic and diastolic.
Systolic blood pressure is measured when your blood pressure is at its highest - when your heart is pumping out blood to your body.
Diastolic blood pressure is measured when your heart is filling back up with blood between beats.

A normal blood pressure range is somewhere around 120/80. If your blood pressure range is over 140/90 then you are considered to have high blood pressure.

	Lowering high blood pressure

The best way to lower high blood pressure and maintain a healthy blood pressure range is a healthy lifestyle. Maintaining a healthy diet, including lots of fruits and vegetables plus a low fat intake, can help to decrease high blood pressure.
Cardiovascular exercise for thirty minutes at least three times a week can help lower blood pressure.

A decrease in activities associated with high blood pressure, such as smoking and drinking alcohol, can also help you a achieve a healthy blood pressure range.

If you are overweight you are also at risk for high blood pressure.

Other helpful high blood pressure remedies consist of activities such as daily meditation and relaxation techniques.

Although not always possible in our busy lives, alleviating stress can help lower blood pressure and help to maintain a healthy blood pressure range.

	Salt and high blood pressure

Some people are not affected by salt but in others an elevated salt rate results in high blood pressure. It is likely your physician will tell you to limit your salt intake if your blood pressure range is high. It is also recommended you do not add salt to your food when you have high blood pressure as many foods have salt as an additive.

	High blood pressure medications

There are a range of medications available to treat high blood pressure.
With high blood pressure medications you can often take more than one at the same time as they often lower your blood pressure range in different ways. Your physician may prescribe several different medications for managing high blood pressure.

Many people with high blood pressure are able to lower their blood pressure range without medication, but if you are in a higher risk group such as diabetes or heart disease then it is more likely that your physician will advise medication to lower blood pressure quickly.

If you have any question or concerns about high blood pressure or lowering your blood pressure range please contact your physician or healthcare professional.

Angina Pectoris is a term for chest pain that is due to insufficient blood supply to the main heart muscle, known as the myocardium.

This symptom usually occurs as a result of bad heart health, resulting from clogged or narrow arteries.

In general Angina Pectoris is felt as chest pain and general discomfort in the heart area and the near regions (neck, shoulder, back, etc.)

In the following article we will discuss causes of Angina Pectoris and available Angina treatments.

Angina Pectoris – Stable Vs. Unstable

Angina Pectoris is divided into stable and unstable cases.

In the case of stable Angina Pectoris, episodes of chest pain and discomfort are generally predictable, i.e. during physical exertion and any type of physical or emotional stress.
These chest pains can be treated with use of Angina Pectoris drugs or simply by resting. In the case of unstable Angina Pectoris, the chest pain can occur while the person is at rest and may be prolonged and more severe than stable Angina Pectoris. The cause of this case is purely fatty buildups and clots that restrict the blood flow to the heart muscle.

Another form of unstable Angina Pectoris is Variant Angina Pectoris or Prinzmetal’s Angina, in which attacks of chest pain occur spontaneously, almost always while the person is at rest. This form is due to transient coronary artery spasm.

	Angina Pectoris medications

The main cause for Angina Pectoris is Ischemia, insufficient blood supply to the heart muscle due to bad heart health.

Medications that are used to help with Angina pectoris affect the blood supply to the heart muscle.
These medications cause the blood vessels to relax and open up more, which allows for easier blood flow to the heart muscle.
When this happens, more oxygen and nutrients reach the heart muscle, chest pain is reduced, and Angina Pectoris is relieved.

One of the main Angina Pectoris medications used is Nitroglycerin. It relaxes the veins and coronary arteries thus increasing the heart’s blood supply while reducing the amount of work required of the heart.

Other Angina Pectoris medications are beta-blockers and calcium antagonists. These medications ease the lower blood pressure and reduce the heart’s workload. Dosages of the medications depend on individual patients, but the end result is elimination of chest pain and increased heart health.

	Angina Pectoris Treatments

There are several procedures that fight Angina Pectoris. A very common procedure is called Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty in which an inflatable balloon is inserted into the clogged artery with the help of a plastic tube (catheter).
When the balloon is positioned at the problematic spot, the balloon is inflated to open up the artery.
Then the balloon is removed, and a stent can be put in place to keep the artery open.
The same procedure can be done with a laser instead of a balloon, in which the laser has the same effect.

Another treatment for Angina Pectoris is a coronary artery bypass surgery in which a vein is inserted that routes the blood flow around the clogged part of the artery. It is important to note that the best way to prevent Angina Pectoris and the need for any treatments is to keep healthy and maintain good heart health.

Heartburn is a medical condition in which stomach acids back up through the esophagus towards the mouth. This creates a harsh fiery sensation that may be confused with the sensations prior to a heart attack. Heartburn is a very common phenomenon but some suffer from more severe heartburn – This is manifested in longer heartburn episodes, suffering from heartburn more than twice a week, or a more painful or irritating sensation which can even cause damage to the esophagus on the long run.

There are many methods of eliminating heartburn, using home remedies, OTC products and antacids, or prescribed medications for severe heartburn episodes. In this article we will discuss different heartburn remedies and try to get an understanding regarding different recommended methods to avoid or reduce heartburn.

Heartburn –lifestyle changes for heartburn relief

Heartburn is caused or agitated by many lifestyle habits we sometimes acquire. Changes to our lifestyle may help in dealing with heartburn –

Overeating enhances the chances of heartburn. It is therefore recommended to eat small portions of food, chew slowly, and drink a sufficient amount of water with every meal. Eat moderate amounts of food, and don't overeat.
For a healthier life, try keeping a balanced weight. Being over weight is a good predictor of heartburn.

Avoid foods that increase chances of heartburn – try to avoid spicy foods, salty foods, fatty foods, and any other foods you find that cause you heartburn.

Cut back on chocolate, coffee, coke, peppermints, tomatoes, vinegar, catsup, and mustard.

Avoid tight clothes, waistbands, tight belts, etc.

Home remediesfor heartburn prevention and relief

	There are many tips for preventing heartburn before using medications: chewing gum can reduce the sense of acidity; one teaspoon of baking soda in about 300 ml of lukewarm water can be a magical solution when heartburn starts; a tablespoon of honey can also help in reducing heartburn – try taking a tablespoon of honey before bed time to see if this reduces you heartburn sensations during the night; fresh ginger in a cup of lukewarm water helps a lot with pregnancy heartburn; chamomile tea diminishes heartburn symptoms;

	Heartburn medications and treatments

Antacids give heartburn relief in many cases, they are over-the-counter products and are easy and relatively safe to use. For those of us who don’t find these helpful, histamine-2 blockers such as ranitidine, cimetidine, or nizatidine, will decrease the amount of stomach acid the body produces. These may also usually be bought over-the-counter. There are heartburn medications that are harsher than these and do require prescription and medically supervised usage.

If all of these heartburn treatments fail, fundoplication is a surgical procedure in which the esophageal sphincter muscle is tightened. This is considered to be a relatively simple medical procedure and it has over 80% success rate in heartburn relief.

Heartburn, also known as Acid indigestion or Pyrosis, is a burning sensation in your throat or chest, caused by digestive stomach acids backing up towards the esophagus. In America, almost 90% of the grown population (men and women) report suffering from heartburn at least once a month.

If frequency of suffering from heartburn increases to over twice each week suspicion of GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) arises. This is a medical condition in which the muscles responsible for closing the esophagus, thus not allowing stomach acid to back up, do not close properly.

	Common causes of heartburn

The esophagus is a tube which passes food from the mouth down to our stomach. At the end of the esophagus there must be a one way sphincter which allows anything in the esophagus to enter the stomach, but nothing to come back up.

When this sphincter doesn't close properly, stomach acid travels trough it and up the esophagus. This causes irritation in the esophagus and the pungent taste along with it.

When there is no anatomic problem, heartburn tends to occur mainly after overeating, when lying down, or during pregnancy in which the inner structure of the organs shifts to make room for the growing uterus.

There are certain foods that might agitate heartburn symptoms, among these we can find:

Smoking tobacco; caffeine; spicy foods; fatty foods; alcohol; tomatoes; some types of fruits (mainly citrus fruit).

Obesity, smoking or using certain medication (such as Ibuprofen) may also cause heartburn.

	Heartburn treatment

Heartburn usually responds very well to treatment, There are many lifestyle changes one can try in order to alleviate heartburn symptoms.

Some such changes one may consider as heartburn treatment can be:

Raise your legs while sleeping; Avoid lying down or bending over after a meal; try eating small portions spread over more throughout the day; try to avoid eating at all for two hours or more before going to sleep or taking a nap; minimize fat intake and increase low-fat ingredients in your meals; avoid tight clothes and belts; and most important – follow your heartburn episodes and try to avoid eating whatever causes you heartburn.

	Heartburn medications

Antacids are usually very helpful in terminating a heartburn episode once it has started. Antacids are OTC medications which do not require a prescription, although it is recommended to limit the use of antacids to three a day, especially when pregnant or breast feeding.

There are also several types of medications used to reduce chronic heartburn or GERD, amongst these are H2 blockers, omeprazole , or lansoprazole , which will reduce the amount of stomach acid produced by the body.

Laxatives

Laxatives are constipation remedies. Some may be bought only according to a physician prescription and some are over-the-counter products. There are many types of laxatives sold as constipation remedies, including lubricants, stool softeners, food supplements and fibers, bowel stimulants, bulk-producing laxatives, and more. Laxatives are not to be used without proper medical supervision, and it is not recommended to consume laxative for long periods of time or without a healthcare professional's guidance.

Laxatives – how do they work?

There are different types of laxatives or constipation remedies, each of them has its own advantages. Sometimes it may take a while and some trial and error, until one finds the constipation relief suitable for them. Among these different types of laxatives we can find:

Bulk-producing laxatives - the most popular constipation treatments, they work by raising the amount of water accumulated in the stool, thus creating a larger softer stool. Among bulk forming laxatives are: Psyllium, Polycarbophil, Methylcellulose. Fibers, taken as food supplements or in your food intake, act as natural bulk producers and along with plenty of water may create the same effect as bulk producing medications.

Stool softeners - work similarly by raising the amount of water and mixing the stool with water, thus softening it and allowing it to pass out of the body easily.

Lubricant laxatives - coat the bowels with a thick layer of oil, thus creating more effective bowel movement and allowing stools, even when they contain little water or fiber, to move out of the body with less effort. Glycerin oil is the most popular lubricant laxative.

Stimulant laxatives – cause contractions in the bowel thus actually "pushing" the stools away. These have the most drastic effect on the body and they are most likely of all other laxatives to invoke side effects.

Laxatives – common and severe side effects

When taken according to a prescription or moderately, laxatives usually have mild side effects such as bloating, nausea, diarrhea, gas, etc.

More sever side effects can be – excessive thirst; weakness; difficulty swallowing; rashes; confusion; sleepiness; irritability; and more. This is not a comprehensive list and it is advisable to maintain medical supervision while using constipation remedies.

People suffering from phenylketonuria should not use phenylalanine base laxatives.

People allergic to psyllium are advised to seek medical assistance while suffering from constipation. It is recommended you read the medication's ingredients list if you are known to suffer from allergies.

Pregnant and breast feeding women should know some laxatives are unsafe for use during pregnancy or breast feeding. It is therefore advisable for them to seek medical advice before starting any constipation treatment.

Since laxatives are powerful remedies and usually do not create healing, but rather a short timed relief of constipation, it is recommended to always seek medical guidance and never to consume laxatives on a regular basis without medical supervision.

	Laxatives – home remedies

Constipation can be caused by emotional stress, a major change of routine or a non healthy diet. If one is prone to suffer from constipation, it is recommended to maintain a healthy diet, and to increase consumption of whole wheat and fiber by eating non peeled fruit and vegetables, drinking plenty of water ( two liters a day or more), and maintaining a healthy regiment of cardiovascular exercise on a regular basis.

Constipation

Constipation is a decrease of bowel movement, or difficulty with passing stools. Constipation is diagnosed according to a person's habits but it is considered healthy to pass stools at least once every 72 hours. There is a wide variety of things that may cause constipation, as well as many different treatments available. These treatments may be administered according to a physician's prescription, taking medication bought over the counter or even by using food supplements.

Constipation causes major reduction in the quality of life and can lead to deterioration in overall health, therefore it is advisable not to delay treatment. Since constipation treatment is available in many forms either start treatment after consulting with your healthcare professional or do so by using over the counter supplements and medications.

	Constipation treatment

There are numerous things that may cause constipation. Nutritional reasons include not consuming sufficient amounts of fluids or fibers in one's diet or eating too much of foods prone to cause constipation.

Delaying a visit to the bathroom is a harmful habit that may cause constipation. In general, it is advised to pass stools once a day and no less than once every three days. "Holding it in" is an unhealthy situation which causes bowel desensitization and constipation. Some women tend to get constipated during pregnancy, consumption of iron may cause constipation, stress or changes of one's routine may also cause constipation triggered by emotional instability.

	Constipation remedies

There is a vast variety of remedies and laxatives that can aid in dealing with constipation. However, using these remedies requires personal responsibility, and although they are usually easy to purchase, using laxatives in an exaggerated manner will harm the body's ability to be nourished by the food one intakes.

It is advisable to maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle. This will help avoid constipation altogether.

Drinking more water helps our body maintain a healthy digestive process.

Eating more fibers - whole wheat, non peeled fruits and vegetables, even fiber supplements may help.

If you take iron supplements and you suffer from constipation – consider changing the dosage, replacing the type of supplement taken, or stop taking it for a short period of time and observe the changes.

It may be helpful to consume more mineral oil in your diet, since oily stools are easier to pass.

	Laxatives

Laxatives are strong anti constipation medications that soften the stools in the bowels. Laxatives offer short term relief for those suffering from intense constipation. They are not a long term solution, are not to be used during pregnancy without proper medical supervision and are not a medication that will solve the problem. Rather they will only allow a short term relief while making necessary changes in habits and diet.

Dementia is a deterioration in brain functions that affects day to day routines for both the sufferer and loved ones. Dementia is very typical at old age but is also characteristic of several medical conditions, such as Alzheimer's disease, Huntington's disease, and Parkinson's disease.

Dementia causes a severe damage to one's ability to cope with the everyday routine tasks and includes memory loss, loss of some communication skills, impaired judgment, and more. It is not always easy to determine whether someone is suffering from dementia or is just having some normal memory or brain function changes as a result of old age. In this article we will discuss dementia and Alzheimer's dementia, its symptoms and attributes, and more

	Alzheimer's dementia

Alzheimer’s dementia is a debilitating and fatal brain disorder which causes both the affected person and the people close to them a lot of emotional stress. Alzheimer’s dementia is a form of dementia which causes deterioration of the nerves in the brain which deal with memory and reasoning. Once these nerves die, the processes controlled through these regions are disrupted and Alzheimer’s symptoms become more obvious.

Alzheimer's disease is one of the most common of dementia causes (Alzheimer's disease explains about 60% of all diagnosed dementia cases). However, Alzheimer's dementia is not different than any other type of dementia caused by any other reason, including natural old age deterioration of brain functions.

Alzheimer's dementia can affect simple routine tasks as well as reasoning abilities and much more. Here is a partial list of possible Alzheimer's dementia symptoms:

 Impaired judgments or reasoning

 Decline in communication skills

 Loss of memory

 Disorientation

 Balance difficulties

 Personal neglect

These symptoms are sometimes hard to detect as they evolve slowly. However, a suspicion may arise for early stages of Alzheimer's dementia when:

A person becomes disoriented when visiting familiar places

There seems to be a difference in the person's ability to communicate and he is repeating the same sentence or question over and over again

A person loses the ability to recognize family members and other familiar faces

A person forgets to bathe and/or mistreats their personal safety or hygiene

Alzheimer's dementia – the difference between dementia and normal loss of memory

All people can experience some of the symptoms associated with Alzheimer’s dementia, especially with ageing; however there is a difference between normal forgetfulness and Alzheimer’s dementia memory loss or functioning difficulties. For example, aging derived memory loss will be a process everyone is aware of, including the sufferer, whilst dementia causes loss of memory the person is usually unaware of; also in dementia it is more frequent to detect not only loss of memory but also a loss of other skills, so the person doesn't only forget but they are also at loss of words or get disoriented or forgets simple directions, as a result of dementia.

Early diagnosis of Alzheimer's dementia can prevent deterioration!

There is no known medication to treat or heal Alzheimer's dementia, however there are medications that can slow Alzheimer's dementia or prevent further deterioration.

Alzheimer’s treatments do help slow the Alzheimer’s symptoms and improve cognition but there will be changes in the behavior of the person afflicted with Alzheimer’s.

Alzheimer’s sufferers will require extra help and patience as the disease progresses and may require extra care due to the inability to keep themselves safe or care for their basic needs. There are often local support groups which can help people who are affected by Alzheimer’s dementia. You can speak to your physician or local charities in reference to what is available for support for Alzheimer’s dementia in your area.

Alzheimer’s dementia is a debilitating disease that gradually causes severe damage to one’s ordinary faculties, as well as emotional stress to the sufferer and the people closest to them.

Alzheimer’s disease is degenerative and progresses through stages, as cognitive processes are affected by the deterioration of the brain cells. Alzheimer’s symptoms will vary in individuals but usually begin with forgetfulness or memory loss and can ultimately lead to neurological impairment.

Alzheimer’s symptoms can take 18 months to 15 years to progress but usually average from 7 to 10 years. These symptoms typically appear after the age of 65 and chances increase with age. People who have siblings or parents with Alzheimer’s disease may have an increased chance of getting Alzheimer’s.

Alzheimer’s disease is not necessarily hereditary, but the genes that are thought to increase the chance of developing Alzheimer’s may be inherited. In this article we will look at how to identify Alzheimer’s symptoms and explore what can be done to slow the progression of Alzheimer’s dementia.

	What are Alzheimer’s symptoms?

Alzheimer’s symptoms usually begin with forgetfulness or memory recall problems. All people can experience these symptoms and they can have a variety of causes including stress and aging; however these symptoms can be a sign of the beginning Alzheimer’s. When Alzheimer’s symptoms become more severe, they can result in difficulty or the inability to care for oneself. As Alzheimer’s progresses the following symptoms may occur:

	Early Alzheimer’s symptoms

-inability to recall names of family members or friends

-inability to recall names of objects you are familiar with

	-forgetting conversations or appointment

-getting lost or confused in places you are familiar with

	-problems completing familiar tasks

	Moderate Alzheimer’s symptoms

-forgetting familiar tasks such as bathing

	-erratic behavior or moods

-placement of items in unusual places

	-confusion

	-judgment problems requiring supervision

	Severe Alzheimer’s symptoms

	-difficulty interpreting visual image

	-inability or difficulty speaking

-problems with bladder and bowel control

-problems with motor skills such as walking

	-problems remembering to eat

	-difficulty swallowing

This is not a comprehensive list of Alzheimer’s symptoms. If you suspect yourself or someone you love has Alzheimer’s, it is recommended you consult with a physician or Alzheimer’s specialist for more information.

What can be done to treat Alzheimer’s?

Alzheimer’s disease cannot be cured but there are Alzheimer’s treatments that can help slow the progression of the disease and help ease Alzheimer’s symptoms.
It is best to consult a physician if you suspect Alzheimer’s symptoms to determine if Alzheimer’s is the cause.

The sooner Alzheimer’s treatment can begin, the sooner you can slow the degeneration of the nerve cells affected and improve the quality of life of the person suffering.

Alzheimer’s can cause many emotional difficulties for the person afflicted with the loss of independence and fatigue associated with the disease. Alzheimer’s also causes emotional difficulties for family members or care givers of people afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease.

Alzheimer’s leaves many people feeling isolated or alone, but that is not necessary.
There are many options available for support in coping with Alzheimer’s and those affected by someone who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease. These options include support groups and counseling for people afflicted with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers or family members.
Your physician or local Alzheimer’s specialist may offer you a variety of support groups or experienced consultants to help to guide you through the hardships of coping with Alzheimer’s disease.

Alzheimer's disease is a degenerative brain disease that effects one's ability to maintain his daily routine and limits his abilities. Medical scientists are still far from understanding the reasons or causes, and are limited by the treatments or medication available for use by Alzheimer's patients. In this article we will explain exactly what Alzheimer’s disease is, who is most likely to suffer from it, and what the Alzheimer symptoms are.

Alzheimer’s Disease – What Is It And Who Gets It?

Alzheimer’s disease is a form of dementia that most commonly affects people over the age of 60. It is a degenerative brain disease that currently has no cure or treatment and it affects cognitive abilities such as memory, thinking, and other tasks. In rare occasions due to genetics, Alzheimer’s disease can appear in early stages of life but the first symptoms are generally observed among people aged 60 or older. The cause of Alzheimer’s disease is not fully understood, nor the reason why it is mostly the elderly that are afflicted by Alzheimer’s. There are currently multiple hypotheses about what causes Alzheimer’s disease. The general consensus is that Alzheimer’s is due to a number of proteins and their development in the brain. These proteins lead to tangles and plaques in the brain structure many years before Alzheimer’s disease can even be detected.

 Alzheimer’s Symptoms

Alzheimer’s symptoms are divided into the stages of the disease. In the pre - Alzheimer’s stage the symptoms involve mild memory loss, stress, and inability to learn new things and perform complicated tasks. In this stage, the symptoms can be mistaken for old age related. In the early stages of Alzheimer’s, the above Alzheimer’s symptoms are more substantial, and the person’s day to day lifestyle may be affected. The Alzheimer’s disease will cause the person to forget common behavior patterns and tasks such as using utensils to eat or tie shoelaces, and language skills will also weaken. From here Alzheimer’s goes to moderate Alzheimer’s to advanced Alzheimer’s. In both cases the Alzheimer’s symptoms are very pronounced, and the person suffering from the disease needs constant assistance and supervision to perform most tasks. He will not recognize familiar people and environments. By the last stage of Alzheimer’s the person will no longer have the ability to communicate.

 Alzheimer’s Diagnosis

Alzheimer’s disease can only be diagnosed definitely after death when an autopsy is possible. However, Physicians are able to determine if a person is suffering from “possible Alzheimer’s” or “probable Alzheimer’s”. This diagnosis is made by tests that involve blood sampling, testing of memory and other cognitive tasks, and questioning the person’s background, health history, and routine, blood sampling, memory. Diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease at an early stage can help by applying therapies to delay and slow the Alzheimer’s development, as well as provide information for clinical studies about Alzheimer’s.

 Alzheimer’s Medications

There are various Alzheimer’s medications currently approved by the FDA. All of the medications help slow the development of Alzheimer’s and make the life of the person more bearable, but there is no medication to cure Alzheimer’s disease. For mild cases of Alzheimer’s, people may use cholinesterase inhibitors that delay Alzheimer’s symptoms and behavioral problems from becoming worse. Moderate to severe cases of Alzheimer’s disease require stronger medications. Alzheimer’s medications such as Namenda® and Aricept® help delay progression of certain symptoms and allow people to perform daily activities for a little longer than possible without use of medications.

 Alzheimer’s Disease - Conclusion

It is still unclear what causes Alzheimer’s, or why it affects mainly the older generations. There is also no known cure for Alzheimer’s disease. Scientists are studying the disease and are constantly looking for a breakthrough that will shed some more light on Alzheimer’s disease.

HIV is a virus that affects millions of people. The virus infects people of all genders, races, and sexualities. Over the years HIV has increased in numbers, and prevention has become a vital element. The course of aids is severe, and deadly. It is of vital importance to practice a safe lifestyle, and have HIV tests as often as necessary. AIDS victims can live carrying HIV virus for many years, but when AIDS emerges, it is a matter of time until the immune system cannot fight back.

 What is HIV and AIDS?

AIDS- acquired immune deficiency syndrome- is caused by HIV, human immunodeficiency virus. HIV targets and destroys lymphocyte helper T cells. T cells stimulate the production of other immune cells such as cytotoxic B and T cells, which fight against infectious diseases. This results in a failure of the cell-mediated immunity, and an insufficiency of normal antibodies. The immune system begins to collapse when the lymph nodes are unable to contain the HIV virus, causing AIDS to emerge.

 How does HIV transmission occur?

HIV or AIDS is transmitted in blood, saliva, semen, and vaginal secretions. This transpires from unprotected sex, blood transfusions, sharing of needles, and between mother and baby through pregnancy and childbirth. People with sexually transmitted diseases like syphilis, gonorrhea, and genital herpes, are at greater risk for receiving the virus through sexual contact.

 HIV symptoms

When HIV or AIDS is transmitted, there could be an incubation period between exposure and appearance of symptoms. When the immune system fails, infections caused by parasites, bacteria and viruses attack the body. AIDS and HIV are characterized by these symptoms:

 Sever weight loss

 Fevers, weakness and fatigue

 Night sweats

 Swollen lymph nodes

 Mouth, genital and anal sores

 Increasingly recurrent infections

 The rare pneumonia- Pneumocystis pneumonia

 Slurred speech and dementia

 Tumors and malignancies

 prevention of HIV

 Practicing safe sex-

Knowing the partners sexual status and history,

 Using condoms.

 Sexual abstinence.

Using new and clean hypodermic needles.

When helping patients, utilize protective apparatuses such as gloves.

Cover any open wounds and lesions.

medication and treatment for HIV and AIDS

There is no cure for AIDS, but there are several antiviral treatments and drugs that help slow down the virus and boost the immune system. There are HIV treatments such as AZT, ddl, ddC, 3TC, d4T, and antiviral therapy called highly active antiretroviral therapy- HAART, that inhibit the enzymes from multiplying, reducing the amount of HIV virus in the blood and increasing the number of helper T cells. The amalgamation of the drugs boost the immune system and lessen infection.

 Testing for HIV

There are many ways to test for HIV, including testing the tissue cells from the oral mucosa, urine tests, and blood tests. Depending on the type of tests taken, the results become apparent from a few hours to numerous days. Early diagnosis and treatment of HIV may help prolong the life, therefore it is imperative to get tested frequently.

 coping with HIV

Once infected with HIV, one should seek counseling, as it is a difficult and traumatic disease, and it is highly beneficial to have help and support. It is important to inform close friends and family, so that any precautions that need to be undergone can occur. There are also many HIV- positive support groups, and it often is helpful to have support from people who are experiencing similar things. There are also HIV hotlines that offer education and support, and are available to answer questions one may have on the subject.

HIV Prevention

HIV or human immunodeficiency syndrome is a virus which attacks the immune system and eventually leaves the body unable to defend itself against infection. Many people are unaware when they have been infected by HIV as the initial HIV transmission is often symptomless. HIV can only be transmitted by specific conditions which include; sexual contact with an HIV infected partner, sharing needles with an HIV infected person, or a blood transfusion with HIV infected blood. Also if a mother is infected with HIV it can be passed to the child. HIV can be passed to the unborn baby during pregnancy if the mother is infected with HIV, during the birth of the baby by an infected mother or through the breast milk of an HIV infected mother. The most effective HIV prevention is to abstain from sexual intercourse (vaginal, anal and oral) or not share needles under any circumstances. HIV can also be transmitted through HIV infected blood in transfusions, although this is rare in the Western world as many procedures have been added to testing protocols to test for HIV tainted blood. Having a child when you were infected with HIV used to mean a very high likelihood of your child also being infected with HIV; however there are now treatments that have decreased mother to child transmission to less than 2%. In this article we will explore how to find out if you have HIV and what options there are for HIV prevention.

How can I know if I have been infected with HIV?

The only way to know if you have been infected with HIV is to be tested for HIV. HIV tests work by determining if the body has begun to make antibodies in response to HIV transmission. Unfortunately, you may not be able to receive an accurate HIV test for up to 6 months after HIV transmission due to the time it takes the body to produce HIV antibodies. Many people show no HIV symptoms in response to HIV transmission. HIV symptoms can include flu like symptoms such as: body aches, fever and swollen glands. Often people do not know they are infected with HIV until it has gotten to the AIDS stage of HIV. This can be up to 10 years after the initial HIV infection. Once HIV has reached the AIDS stage of this virus the body becomes susceptible to a variety of opportunistic infections. As of now there is no treatment or vaccine for HIV or AIDS but there are medications which can slow this virus and increase the life expectancy in infected individuals; however they are very expensive are not always available.

What precautions can I take for HIV prevention?

Although there is a lot of information available on HIV prevention, there is also a lot of false information available on HIV transmission. HIV transmission can only occur through specific conditions. For example you cannot catch HIV by touching someone with HIV, sitting on a toilet seat or kissing someone who is HIV positive with a closed mouth (it is very rare to pass HIV “French kissing” but it is best to take precautions when kissing an infected partner). If you do not wish to abstain from having sex you should always use a latex condom approved for HIV prevention during vaginal, anal or oral sex. If you are using needles, always use sterile unused needles. As stated above, HIV transmission through blood transfusions is rare in most Western countries due to HIV prevention measures now in place. To prevent HIV transmission to your child if you are infected with HIV, speak to your healthcare professional in reference to medications that are available to protect against HIV transmission in this manner. It is often standard procedure to test for HIV infection in pregnant women in both the 1st and 3rd trimester as a precaution against unknown HIV infection being transmitted to the child. As there is no treatment for HIV or AIDS, thus the best HIV prevention available is the promotion of HIV prevention through education. Some organisations achieve this through programmes designed to promote safe sex and programmes designed to promote using sterile needles to decrease HIV transmission through these means.
