Biaxin is used to fight bacteria in the body and to treat various types of bacterial infections affecting the skin and respiratory system. It is also used along with other medicines to treat stomach ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori. In order to reduce the development of drug-resistant bacteria and maintain the efficiency of this antibiotic, Biaxin should be used only to treat or prevent infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria.
Much like any other generic drug, generic Biaxin (clarithromycin) is biologically equal to the brand Biaxin and it is simply manufactured and sold at lower price. Generic Biaxin is actually equivalent to brand Biaxin in its efficiency, strength, dosage, ingredients, safety and intended use.
Biaxin works by killing or stopping the growth of bacteria that may possibly cause certain lung infections (e.g. pneumonia), throat infections (e.g. tonsillitis), sinus infections, lung infections (e.g. pneumonia) and skin infections (e.g. cellulitis and impetigo).
