Amoxicillin is an antibiotic drug in the group of penicillins.
In order to reduce the development of drug-resistant bacteria and maintain the efficiency of this antibiotic, Amoxicillin should be used only to treat or prevent infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria.
Much like any other generic drug, generic Amoxicillin (Amoxil) is biologically equal to the brand Amoxicillin and it is simply manufactured and sold at lower price. Generic Amoxicillin is actually equivalent to brand Amoxicillin in its efficiency, strength, dosage, ingredients, safety and intended use.
Amoxicillin is used mostly for the treatment of infections caused by bacteria such as: bladder infections, bronchitis, pneumonia, ear infections, gonorrhea, salmonella or E. coli infections. It is also used along with other antibiotic called Biaxin to treat stomach ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection.
Formulations of this antibiotic contain amoxicillin which is a semi synthetic antibiotic with a broad spectrum of bactericidal activity against many gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms.
